SITE manager Andy Shaw has staked a claim to become one of the best house-builders in the UK, having been named as a West regional champion in NHBC’s 34th annual Pride in the Job Awards.

Mr Shaw, who is in charge of Taylor Wimpey Midlands' Diglis Water site in Dock Road, Worcester, was chosen from around 15,000 site managers from across the country, as one of three recognised at a ceremony held at the ICC in Birmingham. He won the competition's multistorey category and has been shortlisted for the gala final in January, where the national champions will be announced.

Pete Watton, National Housebuilding Council regional director, said: "The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards are the most sought after accolades in the industry, recognising site managers that build high quality homes. Site managers play a critical role in delivering any project, being responsible for overseeing everything that happens on site from start to finish. Andy is building some of the very best houses in the UK, demonstrating consistently high standards, and is in the top half a percent of his profession. Anyone buying a home built by one of our winners’ can do so with confidence in its workmanship and quality.”

Mr Shaw, who began his career as a joiner in 1980 before moving into management in 2000, added: "Having an eye for detail, good communication skills and team building are all essential skills. This award is recognition of all the hard work and time everyone has put in at Diglis.”
