MANUFACTURERS in Worcestershire are being invited to join a trip to Westminster to discuss how they’re rebalancing the economy and how the government can further support industry.

The event is being organised by lobby organisation Made in the Midlands, members of which are travelling to London on Wednesday February 3 for their annual visit sponsored this time by Lorely Burt, MP for Solihull. The party will be representative of the diverse range of product that is "Made in Britain", which is enjoying a renaissance, particularly with the emerging middle classes in South East Asia and West Africa with the Midlands is at the forefront of that change.

Chief operating officer Charles Addison said: “The government is rediscovering how important manufacturing is and the public actually believe that we make things in this country and indeed this region. The fact is, we always did, but it was rarely celebrated. The Midlands is the epicentre of economic growth nationally and this trip will demonstrate that manufacturing is successful and sustainable and therefore deserves recognition and ongoing support.”

During 2014 Made in the Midlands has had private meetings with George Osborne, Vince Cable and Nigel Farage to discuss the way forward for manufacturing based on their Futures Report. The report canvassed their members and came up with some interesting results, which included that 51 per cent thought government policy didn’t support manufacturing enough, with 43 per cent believing the government needed to improve its understanding of industry.

Alongside the opportunity to discuss their industry issues, members will have the opportunity to visit the public gallery for Parliament. Places are limited and tickets for the trip start at £190 including return travel and refreshments and are restricted to a maximum of two per company.
