ONE of the latest trends in the burgeoning "young mums" market is arriving in Worcestershire.

Kate Brown, who has two toddler sons of her own, is organising a series of Mum2mum markets for parents to make money selling on their outgrown baby clothes and equipment to other families. The idea has already proved a haven for cash strapped parents in London and the south east and now local markets are planned for Worcester and Malvern.

Thirty-three years old Mrs Brown, who lives in the Claines area of Worcester with husband Richard and sons Jacob, aged two, and three months old Joshua, is operating as a franchise of the Mum2mum market business founded by busy mother of two Cath Harrop in London in 2011.

She said: "I heard about Mum2mum market because I was searching for nearly new sales and couldn’t find any that suited how I wanted to sell my items. I attended one and thought it was a brilliant idea. I am so excited to be giving local parents the opportunity to buy great quality second hand goods or make some cash from their outgrown children’s stuff.

“Almost 50 per cent of Brits used credit to cover the cost of Christmas according to The Money Advice Service’s recent spending survey, so it was no surprise we have had so much interest.”

The idea behind the sales is that parents can buy top quality baby and children’s toys, clothes, books and equipment at a fraction of the high street price, quality brands in excellent condition. Parents with outgrown baby and children’s goods can sell on their outgrown kids stuff and keep 100 per cent of the proceeds.

Mrs Harrop, who is a doctor, had the brainwave for Mum2mum while on maternity leave and it won her a national business award within two years.

She said: "Having bought and sold on ebay and at car boot sales I realised there was a need for an event which brought together local parents so they can sell to each other face to face. I found ebay frustrating as a buyer and expensive as a seller and buying a pushchair that turned up filthy and broken was the final straw. I was convinced there must be a better way and Mum2mum market was born."

There are usually at least 20 mums selling at every Mum2mum market with a huge choice of baby and children’s items for sale. Everything must be in excellent condition. Goods for sale range from large items such as designer prams, large toys and cots to toys, books, baby equipment and clothes from newborn to age six. All the venues are indoors and the sales draw a large crowd with buyers queuing up to half an hour before the sale starts to get the best bargains.

The next Mum2mum market is at Perdiswell Young People’s Centre, Worcester on Saturday, February 28 fro 10am-12pm and then at Nunnery Wood High School on Saturday, April 25 from 2pm-4pm. There will also be a Mum2mum market at Malvern Cube, on Sunday , March 22 from 2pm-4pm.
