THE complex problem of cyber security, especially when trading abroad, is to be the focus of a major event in Worcester.

TradeSafe-TradeGlobal will take place at Sixways Stadium on Thursday . February 26 between 9.30am and 3.30pm when a range of industry leading speakers will present information and insights covering the importance of good cyber security practices while doing business internationally. The free event has been organised by UK Trade & Investment and Worcestershire County Council’s Growing Cyber project.

There will be chance to hear from senior business leaders from a mixture of international business backgrounds, discussing the mitigation of financial risks when trading globally, personal experience of their business development overseas and the importance of good security whilst trading in international markets.

Emma Hallam, senior corporate manager at HSBC, has more than 20 years experience working with corporate clients, while her fellow speakers, Clifford Arnold, managing director of UK Flood barriers Ltd, and Emma Stone and Mike Cook, chief sales officer and chief information officer of Postcode Anywhere, have first-hand experience of the opportunities and challenges that come with developing a business overseas.

Joining the industry leading speakers will be a discussion panel highlighting a range of experiences of correct, and incorrect, cyber management. Lucy Purdon, ICT manager at the Institute of Human Rights, will be joined by John Thomson, managing director of Ambrey Risk, Andy McAleer, Middle East/North Africa sector lead at local export leaders, 3SDL, and Christoper Tappin, who was jailed for selling batteries to Iran, a charge which he continues to deny.

Linda Smith, head of UKTI in Herefordshire & Worcestershire, said: “This is a unique event that brings together international trade and cyber for the first time, through the medium of experienced and insightful speakers of greatly differing, but invaluable experience. Cyber security is an increasingly pertinent issue that internationally facing businesses need to take seriously. This event is a great way for businesses to find out more about how it can affect them, hear information on how to address key issues, along with the range support that is available for those looking to increase their cyber protection.”
