GIVING a major boost to the local economy, housebuilder, Barratt Homes has announced plans to open two new sites in Worcestershire, involving nearly 100 jobs.

They will be at Webheath in Redditch and Alvechurch as Barrett plans expansion after a strong recovery in the housing market following the launch of the Help to Buy scheme.

Graydon Worthing, sales director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: "We have seen demand for new homes expand very quickly over the year and the new sites we are opening mean that there will be more choice for local buyers. And its good news for the local economy as in addition to the local construction jobs underpinned by building the new homes, the local people who move into the new housing will also spend their wages locally. This means a significant boost for local retailers as well. It's exactly what this area needs."

Mr Worthing said the new jobs weren't the only piece of good news for people in Worcestershire in 2015. He added: "The really great news this year is the continuation of Help to Buy Equity mortgages, which means first time buyers and those moving up the housing ladder can get moving with just a five per cent deposit, a 20 per cent equity loan, and a 75 per cent mortgage.

Barratt Homes West Midlands is currently building new homes in Worcestershire at three developments, in Worcester, Kidderminster and Evesham.
