A SUPPORT group has been set up to help Worcester mothers who run their own businesses.

"Worcester Business Mums Network has been running as a Facebook support group for just a couple of months and we already have 113 members, which demonstrates the demand for a local support network," said administrator Jennifer Mary Barnes-Hill, who has a 19 month old daughter and lives at Lower Broadheath. The group includes teachers, fitness and well-being experts, pregnancy and childcare professionals, event organisers, photographers, charity trustees, shop owners, artists and therapists.

"Local business mums noticed that there was no local networking or support group specifically for mothers in business," Mrs Barnes-Hill added. "Many networking meetings were at times that did not fit in around the school run or that you could take small children to. It was also found many groups were not genuinely supportive and creative; they were just trying to sell products or services.

"Within the group, partnerships, information and skills sharing, collaborations and successful charity events have already taken place. For example, we support each other on Twitter and LinkedIn sharing posts and events with our own contacts. We also help group members who are not confident using social media through advice and guidance to grow in confidence and set up their own business pages."

Alongside the online forum, three meetings take place each month. Formal meetings are held at St Peter's Tesco meeting room on the last Monday of the month at 7.30pm. Informal meetings (children allowed) are held at different child-friendly venues on different days and times to include as many people as possible and there is also a monthly social event.

Mrs Barnes-Hill said: "I have found the group an invaluable source of support and guidance for juggling the dynamics of relocating, parenting and business practices. No question is too small or silly, even if you just want to run a concept by other people for your own peace of mind."
