THE chief financial officer of Worcestershire-based national retailer Halfords has resigned to take up a role at easyJet, only months after its chief executive also announced plans to step down.

Andrew Findlay will remain with Halfords, which is headquartered at Redditch, until October 2015 before leaving to take up the role of chief financial officer at the airline.

He said: "I have greatly enjoyed my time with Halfords and I am exceptionally proud of the progress the business has made over the last few years. I am sad to be leaving, but the opportunity to join easyJet was too attractive to turn down. As a result, the time has come to let someone else take on the role of CFO in this fantastic business. I wish Halfords and the team every success."

Halfords' board chairman Dennis Millard added: "We would like to thank Andrew for his outstanding contribution to the business. He has played an important role in the recent Halfords story. He will be leaving Halfords in a healthy financial position and with an award-winning finance team. Halfords is a strong business with a clear strategy, is trading well and will continue to build on its leading positions in a number of large and attractive retail and service markets."

Mr Findlay's resignation comes after Halfords chief executive Matt Davies announced he would step down to join troubled supermarket giant Tesco. He is due to take up his new position on 1 June.
