SPECIALIST lawyers at a Worcester law firm have raised a four-figure sum for a city hospice as part of a month-long Will campaign aimed at encouraging people to plan for the future.

mfg Solicitors, based in The Tything, has donated all of the £3,450 raised to St Richard’s Hospice after offering discounted wills to local people at a reduced rate. The funds have gone towards supporting the 31-year-old hospice to help their ongoing work with their 2,600 patients and their families.

Amanda Piper a wills and probate lawyer at mfg, said: “Making a will is not the most pleasant thing to have to do but it is absolutely essential for people who want to look ahead to the future. We have seen so many heart breaking cases of family feuds over the last wishes of their loved ones, not to mention costly court proceedings that can needlessly erode the estate someone would have wanted to leave. Yet, incredibly, almost 30 million people don’t have a will as many don’t understand intestacy laws. We want to help shift that trend. I hope our campaign has not only raised money for a fantastic local cause, but also shown just why making a will is so important.”

Alison Parkes, St Richard’s Hospice senior community fundraiser, added: “Donations and legacies are absolutely essential for us to carry on the work we do across Worcester. We are very grateful to Amanda and the team at mfg Solicitors, not just for the generous donation, but also for encouraging people to make a will. Many people thoughtfully and kindly remember us in their wills through legacies so that we can continue to help others.”
