A LAMB producer from Worcestershire has been crowned champion for the second time in three years at the Royal Three Counties Show.

Ben James, of Tenbury Farm Supplies, picked up first prize in the lamb carcass category at this year’s show and is "absolutely ecstatic" with the success.

His lamb - a Beltex breed which weighed 21kg - was sold in a McCartney’s auction for £400 to Ben Morton, butcher at Hillworth Farm, Longdon, near Tewkesbury.

Mr James said: “I am absolutely ecstatic to have won the lamb carcass class for the second time in three years at the Royal Three Counties Show.

"It has definitely made all the hard work worthwhile.

"This show for me is one of the calendar highlights - a real celebration of British farming and production and it has been a huge honour to be able to competitively showcase the Beltex breed alongside a line-up of fantastic producers.”

Mr James and his mother farm 700 Beltex ewes at Netherwood Estate, Tenbury Wells, which is owned by Lord and Lady Darnley.

The flock is part of the family business Tenbury Farm Supplies, an independent country store supplying animal health products, feeds, farm equipment, outdoor clothing and TenTag livestock ear tags.
