A WORCESTER venue is to host a national convention for dance teachers.

The Pear Tree Inn and Country Club, in Smite Hill near Hindlip, is to play host to a national convention for dance teachers next month.

The event is being organised by leading business advises to the dance world, The Dance Den, and will focus on all aspects of running a successful dance school.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 21.

The UK is one of the leading countries to train to become a professional dancer and vocational schools, attracting the best talent from all around the world.

According to statistics published by One Dance UK, one of the leading dance organisations, it is estimated the dance economy employs around 30,000 people in various roles including dancers, teachers, choreographers, technicians and managers.

There are an estimated 200 dance companies in the UK, providing performers for West End musicals, and in opera, film, television, live music and video.

“At vocational schools dance teachers are trained to be technicians but there is a lot more to running a successful dance school then just teaching how to do a pirouette,” founder of the Dance Den, Sarah Gittens, said.

“The market has become highly competitive, children have a wide range of hobbies and activities to choose from and parents expect more and more for their money so it is important that you treat your dance school as a business."

The dance convention at the Pear Tree Inn will focus on cashflow, striking a work and life balance, legal obligations of running a school, marketing and brand strategy, social media and advertising.

There will be various speakers including Sarah, Paul and Stefan Founders of Membermister and Damien Burgess, founder of Red Squirrel Marketing.

The event takes place between 9am and finishes at 4.30pm.
