SEVERAL Worcestershire companies have received "presents" from the Queen in her Birthday Honours list for businesses.

Spread across the categories of international trade, innovation and enterprise, they reward businesses at the cutting edge of the UK's efforts in manufacturing and retail.

A Queen's Award for enterprise innovation goes to PCA Predict, the technology company headquartered in the Diglis area of Worcester, while another innovation award is picked up by Green Lighting, based on the city's Great Western Business Park.

Queen's Awards for enterprise in international trade go to Winstead, the third time the Bromsgrove designer and manufacturer of control room solutions has received an award, Orchard Valley Foods of Tenbury Wells, which exports confections and decorations, and Kudos Blends of Cleobury Mortimer, specialists in technically driven bakery raising agents.

PCA Predict, which was previously called Postcode Anywhere, has pioneered many of the major technical innovations in the data validation market since the company was founded in 2001. It won the award in recognition of how its search based method of retrieving address data has helped to transform its market. It enables customers to more easily capture international addresses where the postcode or zip code may not exist.

Founder Guy Mucklow said: “Our vision at PCA Predict to 'transform our market through the power of search and service', is an exceptionally powerful statement which requires a high level of confidence in knowing how your market needs to evolve and in the ability of your team to deliver.

“The company is delighted to have been recognised through the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation. We’re really looking forward to the next few years as we launch a new range of predictive services, which we believe will further enhance our position in managing online customer experience.”

Green Lighting received an award for the development of a new customer service charter to support its LED lighting products. When a new home owner moves in, there are usually a few teething problems and they appear on a snag list, which requires the sub-contractor to attend and rectify the issue. To assist the customer, contractor and house builder, Green Lighting created the Green Lighting Deal. This takes responsibility for all of its products, pre and post installation. In busy times, resolving customer care issues can sometimes take longer than expected, thus resulting in frustration for the customer.

Managing director Anthony Ottway said: "We have worked really hard to achieve this, I am so glad the work has paid off and we are being recognised nationally as a leading business for innovation.”

On Bromsgrove Enterprise Park, Winsted designs, manufactures, assembles and installs specialist control room furniture – such as consoles, monitor walls and digital desks – for a range of business sector customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Building on the recognition achieved through awards in 2012 and 2013, the company has been recognised again for its contribution to international trade, delivering substantial growth through the design, manufacture and delivery of control room furniture solutions.

General manager Terry Shough said: "For the third time in five years, Winsted has been conferred with the UK’s most prestigious award for business achievement. This is a tremendous achievement, achieving this award again in such a short space of time confirms the company’s position as a leading supplier within our industry.”
