A MOTHER-of-two, who works in the conveyancing team at a county law firm, has taken a bold step for charity.

Tracey Hinton of Kerwoods in Redditch, has had her head shaved to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Having set a target of £150, her sponsorship has surged and, once everything has been collected in, the total is set to hit £500.

Mrs Hinton said: "I saw the initiative being promoted on the television and thought – I could do that.”

Husband Tim and daughters Nathalie, aged18, and Chloe, 14, were supportive and so were the partners at Kerwoods. It is a cause dear to Mrs Hinton's heart as she lost her brother Richard to cancer at the age of only 30 and her father-in-law Peter four years ago, plus a colleague at Kerwoods, who worked on reception. The official shaving took place at her home, with family and friends present to cheer her on.

She added: “It was a bit of a shock when I looked at myself in the mirror, but it is only hair. It will grow back in four to six weeks even though it will probably be Christmas before I am completely ‘normal’.” Mrs Hinton has spurned wearing a hat, determined to tough it out as an example to others.

Kerwoods partner Emma Beddows said: “Tracey has been so brave. It is quite a step for a woman to have all her hair cut off, perhaps more so than a man where polished pates are quite de rigueur. We are thrilled for her.” Mrs Hinton's effort is part of Macmillan’s Brave the Shave initiative.
