A WORCESTERSHIRE provider of ingredient mixes for the baking and processed foods sectors has been bought by a multinational yeast producer headquartered in France.

LFI Tollblend on Ikon Trading Estate, Hartlebury employs 35 staff, primarily in production, and has been acquired by Lesaffre of Marcq-en-Baroeul, near Lille. Established in 1987, LFI makes dry food powders and mixes at its processing facility.

Mike Abraham, general manager of Lesaffre UK & Ireland, said: "Lesaffre is already present in the United Kingdom through DCL Yeast and Fermex and can now look forward to widening its bakery offering." Lesaffre also bought Tecno Bakery in Barcelona, Spain.

The acquisitions follow the launch of Lesaffre's Livendo sourdough brand, with the French family group saying it wanted to place greater emphasis on ingredients and sourdough in its baking market offer.

Tollblend was advised on the transaction by Justin Sparks, partner at Springboard Corporate Finance, with legal advice provided by Alison Scott of Worcester law firm Harrison Clark Rickerbys.

Mr Sparks said: "The shareholders of Tollblend have invested heavily in their business over recent years. They built a low cost production facility whilst at the same time focusing on adding value with their consultancy services. We are delighted to have been able to deliver this transaction for the shareholders."
