WHAT CHANCE did Hitler ever have in World War Two, when we had Mr Punch and he only had a stubby little moustache?
Now a new show at the Evesham Arts Centre will reveal the role the Punch magazine played in keeping the stiff upper lip stiff in dear old Blighty, during the nation's darkest hour.
A spokesman said: "Amid the battle of France, Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, Mr Punch's cartoons reflected the cheerful resolve of the British people to carry on a way of life under threat.
"Features such as 'From the Home Front' and 'At the Pictures' dealt with topical issues in an informed but humorous way."
The spokesman added: "Artist and lecturer, Tim Stimson looks at WW2's darkest days through through the pages of a 1940 copy of Punch Magazine 1940; bought at a car boot sale for just £4."
The show has been arranged by Evesham Decorative and Fine Arts Society.
The date for the diary is Wednesday January 11, from 8pm.
