THE FIRST concert in a new season for the Evesham and District Music Club attracted around 100 music lovers.

The concert, at the Evesham and District Music Club, featured The Bochmann String Quartet with Keith Rubach on bassoon.

A spokesman said: "The programme included a mixture of textures, techniques, familiar and less performed pieces, and delighted the audience with the pace and sensitivity displayed by the musicians.

“It is a real privilege to hear and enjoy such quality entertainment locally and in such a convenient facility."

The next "official" music club concert will take place on Tuesday November 11 November, from 7.30am, and it will star a French Horn soloist with a piano accompanist.

The spokesman added: "Alex Frank-Gemmill was a recipient of the Philip and Dorothy Green Award in 2007. At 22, Alex is a rising star in the music world, and he is also principal horn of the European Union Youth Orchestra."

He will be performing a selection of pieces including Strauss, Beethoven, Hindemith and Mozart.

Pianist Daniel Tong with be playing a sole piece, "Danseuses de Delphes", by Debussy .

But before then, an extra concert has been planned, which is not part of the music club programme.

The Flowers Brass Band will perform at the Evesham Arts Centre on September 30, from 7.30pm.

Another "extra" concert has also been planned, for January 25, and this will feature the pianist Jayson Gillham.

The spokesman said: "We want to have good audiences for them in particular."
