Jim Parsons has revealed he was taken aback by the uncanny similarities with his new wax figure.

The Big Bang Theory star, who has won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his performance as theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper on the hit US show, gasped as he came face-to-face with his likeness at Madame Tussauds Orlando, and joked: “I feel like he’s going to talk to me.”

And when he gave the waxwork a peck on the cheek, he admitted: “That’s awkward.”

Jim said: “The most surprising thing for me was looking into the eyes, which looked very much like looking into the mirror – as close as I’ve ever looked into my own eyes like that.

“The most delightful thing was some of the freckles and things that I saw had such close attention paid to, more so than even I think about them. It’s all here.”

Jim, who next stars in DreamWorks animated movie Home, said this waxwork would give fans a photo opportunity with him.

“Honestly, this is probably a better chance to take a picture with me than I am. I’m not as willing to let people touch me as this probably is, so in a way, it’s a win-win for all of us,” he added.

Even Jim’s Big Bang Theory co-star Simon Helberg, who plays Howard Wolowitz, quipped: “This is really scary,” as he posed for a selfie with the figure.

Over 250 measurements were taken by sculptors to painstakingly create the figure, which wears clothes donated by the actor and worn on set.

Neil Linssen from Madame Tussauds explained: “The process of making Jim started with the sitting, so last July, we met with him in Los Angeles and we measured him from every conceivable angle. We (did) hundreds of photographs and measurements.

“There’s a lot of detail with the figure. A lot of things that were difficult to capture but we nailed it, and Jim seems really happy. Even the little dent in his ear, he pointed out that we captured that and the freckles on his face. Every little thing, we would look at in the photos and try and replicate and make it as accurate as possible.”

Jim’s figure will be on public display from May 4, when it will be placed in a TV production studio setting.
