An afternoon of music dedicated to disco divas and dancing queens will celebrate the 1970s and '80s with flair.

Rhyl Town Council will bring its latest free event, Retro Rhyl, to the High Street next month.

Representing the '70s, The Freak Out Disco Band will be joined by '80s tribute act Echo Beach and a street disco to entertain shoppers and visitors alike with some of the best tunes from two decades of music.

Cllr Win Mullen-James, Mayor of Rhyl, said: “Retro Rhyl takes us back in time for an afternoon of much-loved music – perms, shoulder pads, and flares may be the stuff of memories, but the music lives on.

“Music from the '80s is enjoying something of a resurgence' so whether people are shopping, out with the family, or just fancy dropping everything and joining us for a dance and a singalong, Retro Rhyl has something to get everybody in the groove.”

Providing the sound of the '70s, six-piece Merseyside outfit The Freak Out Disco Band will play a selection of top disco, soul and funk tunes, and will be joined by '80s electro tribute act Echo Beach.

Echo Beach front man Ivor Hillman has also enjoyed success with new wave band The Pierrot Dolls and is a past winner of Channel’s 4’s Come Dine with Me.

The bands will be joined by Rhyl's own Glenn Mitchell, rhythm guitarist of Beatles tribute act The Cavernites, who will provide a the street disco of '70s and '80s hits in between sets.

Retro Rhyl is the latest free event from Rhyl Town Council, following Mayor’s May Day and Seafest last month.

Cllr Mullen-James added: “Our spring and summer events have all been about supporting Rhyl businesses, bringing people into town and creating a buzz.

“Retro Rhyl will lead us nicely into August with the return of Denbighshire County Council’s air show and summer music festival, both of which are supported by Rhyl Town Council.”

Retro Rhyl will be held on the High Street on Saturday, July 21 from midday
