The wild poetry and joyous mayhem of poetry’s primal firebrands is set to cut a swathe across the North Wales coast.

Following a blistering set at Wrexham’s Focus Wales in May, Chinese whisperings of the raw power of Glove will swell to an anthem of sung praises between Rhyl and Rhos-on-Sea this week.

Comprised of war-painted poet duo Stephanie Finegan and Hannah Sloman – Slosilver – the band’s near-mythic reputation has been won, in no small part, by their refusal of easy categorisation.

Indeed, reeling off a list of influences is also, compellingly, problematic.

The band hasn’t so much reinvented the wheel, as returned defiantly to the primordial time before it’s invention - and the results are glorious.

Songs are stripped back, yet surprisingly noisy, created solely with a pounding floor ‘tom’ and the alternating accompaniment of guitars and throbbing bass.

Their sound redefines the range of what is possible artistically with such a ‘lo-fi’ set-up and pure vocal power.

Tempestuous, and often appearing completely spontaneous, each performance is unique and organic.

Both gigs this week are unmissable, so expect to see the same faces at each of the venues.

Glove will be at The North on Wellington Road, Rhyl – with support from Bangor band The Stash – on Thursday, June 28 at 10pm. Admission is free.

Tickets for the Friday, June 29 gig at PIE Records in Rhos are £5 from fatsoma.com, or £6 admission on the door.
