WHEN you think of vintage, a number of things may spring to mind; stars, glamour, the Golden Age. Or perhaps your grandmother's cardigans. Whichever floats your boat, the Rock Follies Vintage Fair, with friends Vintage Cornered, had something for everyone.

When I arrived at the Old Rectifying House, North Parade, Worcester, on Sunday, February 13, I expected the place to be deserted. Especially as I was there at 11.45am; fifteen minutes before the fair was due to commence. However, within a few minutes of my arrival two more ladies climbed the stairs in the Old Rec, up to the second floor where the fair was being held. By twelve noon, at least twenty people were eagerly awaiting the chance to step into the past, and browse through clothes from all decades.

Although it was by no means the largest venue, the atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming. Vintage lovers can browse at their leisure, without pressure and at their own pace. Which is useful, as there is so much to see. It is surprising just how much can be fit into the relatively small space; rows of beautiful fur coats, a vibrant tie rack, and cases filled with a splendid selection of brilliant brooches, ear rings, and other pieces of jewellery from years gone by. Instantly I spotted a row of 1920s flapper dresses; sassy, short and sequinned. In fact, in 2011, the 1920s don't seem so far away, as stores such as BHS and Miss Selfridge are getting their '20s fashion fix; sequinned chiffon jackets and short tassel dresses are all on show, not to mention a whole host of jewellery to take you all the way back.

Everything is so well preserved, and in an attempt to recycle the past, maxi dresses have been made from other old garments. Velvet hats and practical yet stylish bandanas, which look like they could have come straight out of a 1940s 'war effort' poster, are displayed on mannequins. It really is a blast from the past.

The prices vary greatly depending on what you're after, and as is the case with vintage, things don't always come cheap. But the huge selection of beautiful clothes, ranging from suits to dresses, and from hats, to shoes and classy vintage mirrors, is perfect for those who want to stand out a bit, or those with a love for all things vintage. And there are more vintage lovers in Worcester than I first thought.

Lynda Case, of Rock Follies Vintage, has run Rock Follies with her daughter Alys since October 2009, and assures me that vintage lovers are out there, they just need to know where to look. “We had over 150 customers turn up over four hours, despite the driving rain, so it was a great success.” Rock Follies do vintage shows and have had stalls all over the country, and plan to come back to Worcester, and hopefully, back to The Old Rec again.

So, whether you're after a little inspiration for that '50s themed party, or you just want a stylish handbag that won't fall apart in weeks, Rock Follies Vintage has something glamorous in store for you.
