AS You Like It at the RSC this week turned out to be more a case of what Katy did!
This production marks the return to direction for Michael Boyd and the influence of the RSC artistic director is plain to see.
But it’s Katy Stephens’ seductive Rosalind who steals our hearts as well as Orlando’s with a beautifully measured performance.
The new season in Stratford continues a successful launch with this production designed by Tom Piper.
A simple, multi-dimensional stage successfully presents the drama and action.
The plain backdrop opens up likes an advent calendar and the floor has more trap doors than a David Blaine set!
Katy Stephens’ quick-fired wit takes centre stage in the play set in court and the Forest of Arden.
Her foil, Jonjo O’Neill as the hopelessly-smitten Orlando, is a bright match and perfect foil.
There are some great comic moments too with Richard Katz’s manic Touchstone and Sophie Russell’s wag-like Audrey.
If you like your theatre lively, you’ll love As You Like It – on at Stratford until October 3. Ring 0844 8001110 for details.
