Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox has praised the soap for choosing to return to her character’s painkiller addiction storyline.

Jessica plays Nancy Osborne in the Channel 4 show and had a recent plotline involving her battling the addiction, which villain Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) played upon to ruin her marriage.

Now, Nancy has suffered a relapse and Jessica told Inside Soap that she thought that going back to the drama was the right thing to do.

She said: “I think revisiting Nancy’s story is the correct thing to do. Addiction is something that people battle their entire lives – you don’t just get over it.

“But we’ve also revisited it in a really responsible way. Nancy is on her own now that her marriage to Darren has fallen apart, and she’s choosing to take pills herself this time. It’s no longer a case of Sienna drugging and manipulating her.”

Her relapse sees Nancy dangling from a window ledge at The Dog and Jessica said: “Nancy’s really frightened by that and it gives her a bit of a wake-up call. It’s the catalyst she needs to admit that serious help is in order.”

There is also romance on the horizon for Nancy with Joe Roscoe (Ayden Callaghan), but Jessica said she didn’t think that it would be serious.

She said: “Joe is a great distraction for Nancy, but he’s not naughty enough for her. She loves a naughty boy and that’s why she and Darren always end up getting back together.

“He has a great sense of humour and used to make her laugh – and that’s something that Joe’s younger brother Robbie does for her as well.”
