A COMEDY about class, gardening and unrequited love is coming to Westcote Village Hall, near Chipping Norton.

The play, "Old Herbaceous" will entertain a local audience on Saturday, October 29, from 7.30pm.

A spokesman said: "Old Herbaceous is a charming and humorous portrayal of the life of Gloucestershire gardener, Herbert Pinnegar, and his journey from orphan boy to head gardener at a Cotswold manor house, then on to the dizzy heights of judging for the RHS.

"All this takes place under the tender but ever class-conscious protection and encouragement of his beloved employer, Mrs Charteris."

The spokesman added: "An acute and sometimes hilarious portrayal of the relationships between the classes in a gentler, simpler age; full of gentle good humour, endearing country common sense, it has an unrequited love story at its heart.

"Join Giles Shenton in his potting shed for a conversation from a bygone age and leave feeling all the better for having shared his life's experiences."

The play is by Alfred Shaughnessy and is based on the novel by Reginald Arkell
