LEDBURY Poetry Festival, which marks its 21st anniversary this year, opens this Friday (June 30).

Organisers are promising “a truly dazzling programme of events”, and big names will include the EastEnders actor, Ann Mitchell; the award-winning actor and Festival patron, Juliet Stevenson; the actor Hugh Dennis; the comedian Sean Hughes, and big-name poets including John Hegley and Simon Armitage.

Science gets a look-in too, with poems chosen by the celebrity biologist and author, Richard Dawkins.

The Festival runs until Sunday July 9, when the coming of age anniversary - and the 400th anniversary of Ledbury’s Market House - will be marked with The Great Ledbury Celebration in the High Street, from noon to 4pm.
