AN Evesham woman has battled back from her chemotherapy to raise around £700 for breast cancer care.
Lindsey Pritchard, of The Heathers, Evesham, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May this year and had to have a mastectomy to remove her left breast soon after. She has recently finished her gruelling chemotherapy sessions at Redditch, and celebrated with a fundraising coffee morning at her home this month.
Lindsey said: "I was told I had an aggressive cancer and it knocked me for six. I was determined to remain positive though and managed to do this with the support of my friends and family, as well as district nurses in Evesham and other cancer organisations, and I wanted to give something back.
"At my coffee morning last Saturday (13) we had a tombola, a raffle, I made damson jam and we had a cake stall. I had never made jam before but we managed to sell it all!
"I had a real cross-section of about 50 friends, family, colleagues and clients from my mobile hairdressing business turn up and we managed to raise over £650 for In The Pink Cancer Care, with more still coming in. It's exceeded all my expectations."
Earlier this year Lindsey began her treatment for breast cancer in Warwickshire Hospital but was later transferred to Redditch where she received her chemotherapy.
She said: "The service and support shown to me by staff during my treatment has been fantastic, I couldn't fault it. My first chemo session was on June 12 and I finished on September 27. I start a course of Herceptin on November 8 and will finish that this time next year, so there's still a long way to go."
Friend Jo Fell said: "Lindsey has been through so much and worked so hard to organise the event, its lovely to see her get the recognition she deserves."
