Tim raises more than £1,000
A FORMER retained firefighter from Broadway has raised over £1,100 for the Warwickshire Firefighter Fund and the Air Ambulance with some classic horse and carriage rides.
Tim Crump, aged 59, raised the money over the Christmas period with horse and carriage rides to cater for late night shoppers at three locations in Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden.
Tim and friends raised £705 for the Warwickshire Firefighters Fund that was set up following the tragedy in Atherston-on-Stour, with a further £600 for the County Air Ambulance and was surprised by the positive response they had.
Tim said: "We picked people up and took them to the shops, then back again through the towns and we had a great reaction to the service, people really enjoyed the whole experience.
"The carriage, a 1900 Polish Wagonette, was all decorated and illuminated and pulled by our horse Gipsy in Broadway and Stow, and by Fortune in Chipping Campden."
Tim spent 31 years as a retained firefighter in Pebworth and then Broadway before his retirement last year, and it was his bounty from the fire service which enabled him to invest in this new venture.
He said: "My son had always wanted a Pony and I didn't want to waste the money I received from the fire service so I invested it in some horses and carriages. I bought Gipsy, a Cob, in 2000 and she was brilliant, she did everything we needed her to. We now have 12 carriages and three horses and plan to do it all again later this year."
