Wanderers win three more to tighten grip at top
Evesham & District Table Tennis Association
WYRE Wanderers remain top of the second division after they added three more wins added to their season's tally.
They defeated Littleton Panthers 9-1 and both Littleton Bears and Bengeworth Green 7-3. Graham Briscombe won all his six games against Panthers and Bears.
Wyre Barbedwyre are still second and kept the pressure on when recording four successive wins.
They overcame Littleton Bears 9-1, Bengeworth Sapphires 8-2 and got the better of both Wyre Coils and Littleton Panthers 7-3.
Mike Vick won all his 12 singles for Barbedwyre as they make a final attempt to pip Wanderers to the title.
Wyre Coils remain in third place despite losing to Barbedwyre. They came back strongly with victories over Littleton Giants (10-0) and Bengeworth 49ers (7-3).
Luke Gordon won all of his six singles in the two matches when he only dropped one set to Derek Close.
Bengeworth Green had mixed fortunes recording a good 7-3 win over Littleton Panthers but lost 9-1 to Littleton Bears.
Paul Gearey and Dave Simkins both won all their singles matches against the Panthers while Simkins was the only player to win a game against the Bears.
The two bottom sides Littleton Giants and Bengeworth 49ers battled it out to gain an advantage over the other with the former coming out of the top 8-2.
Both Derek Close and Andrew Gretton won three singles each for the Giants while Sandra Jackson won one.
Results didn't get any better for Giants after that win as they lost 9-1 to both Littleton Panthers and Bengeworth Sapphires with Littleton's Bruce Ford and Alex Gretton and Katie Sellick and Stef Mytton of Bengeworth all winning their three singles matches.
The Giants picked up a point against Bengeworth Sapphires when they played them in the reserve fixture.
Once again Mytton recorded three wins along with Brian Haines who also won all of his singles.
Close and Sandra Jackson won one game apiece and combined in the doubles to earn their team a point.
Players are reminded that this Sunday is the Association's Closed Championships. Players are reminded to arrive early to register as the doubles events start at 8.45am.
