Juniors have a ball and reap rowing rewards

THERE was more success for the Evesham club's junior section at the annual Ball Cup Regatta at Dorney Lake.

Crews raced over a 1,000m course and, for many of the younger juniors, it was their first experience of multi-lane racing.

This wasn't enough to put off the J13 double of Alex Russell and Will Taylor who collected the first medal of the day, a bronze.

There was to be bronze glory too for the J15 boys' coxed quad of Jack Lazenby, Dominic Murphy, Andrew Uncles, and Jamie Sellick and cox Lawrence Sullivan.

The race named as the most exciting of the day was the final for women's J14 quadruple sculls.

Laura Attwood, Zena Tredell, Tash Bradley, Olivia Walklett and cox Hayley Pawlowski dominated their semi-final.

They knew what was needed in the decider and made a fantastic start, pushing ahead and leading the tightly packed field up the course.

They pushed all the way but their opponents weren't going to give up on gold that easily but neither were the Vale girls who just nudged ahead through a chorus of bells to claim their golden prize.

Stacey Allen put up a good fight in the women's J18 singles event but was knocked out in the semi-final by strong opposition from the American School of London and local rivals Stratford-upon-Avon.
