Pershore denied at the death
A SECOND successive final over thriller saw Pershore unfortunate not to force a victory over last season's Worcestershire League title contenders.
Saturday's first division clash at Worcester Nomads saw Lee Wilks lose the toss only to see openers Joe Taylor and David White build a sound platform with a stand of 63.
The latter was first to go for 48 while Taylor continued his anchor role before he too fell two runs short of a deserved and maiden senior half-century.
Skipper Wilks with 39 off 30 balls helped Trevor Ridings add 52 useful runs in the final eight overs as the visitors totalled 202-6 in their allotted 50 overs.
Luke Dalley then conceded just 11 overs in his first nine overs as Nomads fell behind the rate with Lachlan McKenzie and Guy Muspratt also producing impressive spells.
Paul Gardner's late flurry threatened Pershore supre-macy but his dismissal saw the hosts hang on for a draw at 193-8 and the visiting side claim 15 points.
Dean Brooks top scored with 43 in the second team's 186 that proved nowhere near enough as Nomads had seven wickets and 17 overs to spare when they reached their target.
History was made on Saturday when Pershore fielded a fourth team in a Lea- gue Cup match against Romsley and Hunnington.
Alex Longhi (43), Naomi Heywood (31) and Sam Cross (32) batted well in their side's all-out total of 200 before Jon Thompson's superb spell of 5-36 sent the chasers crashing to 53 all out.
