Women get better of the Navy

WORCESTERSHIRE women's cricketers played a couple of friendly games against the Royal Navy.

The opening 15-overs-per-side contest saw the county girls rattle up 97-4 thanks to fine knocks from Thea Brookes (25ret) and Mandy Gowland (19no).

The chasers were always in with a chance but tidy bowling at the close saw the Navy fall ten runs short of victory.

There were five fewer overs for each side in the heat second time around when Worcestershire totalled 80-2 with Coral Handley (20ret), and Kat Clasen (22ret) the batting stars.

The Navy only managed 39-3 in reply with Charlotte Holtom taking 1-5 off her two overs.

The county ladies travel to Staffordshire on Sunday in their opening Division Four match of the summer.
