EVESHAM Rugby Club's Under-17s girls squad had to settle for runners-up spot in their season's tournament.
They knew they had to get the better of Warwickshire Comets in the final round at Shipston last Sunday and were given an early chance when they were pitched against them in the first match of the day.
Nerves, however, got the better of the Evesham squad and they never showed their true potential as the Comets took immediate control and recorded a comfortable victory to secure the title and leave the Reds with the runners-up trophy.
Once the pressure was off, the girls were back to the best to register comfortable victories over Kenilworth, Old Salts and Bournville.
The Blues, meanwhile, were missing several key players but showed further improvement and were only denied a couple of wins when they conceded late tries.
They are beginning to gel together as a team and look like being a real force at the start of next season.
