FOUR late Warwickshire firefighters have been remembered as part of a new monument unveiled by HRH The Princess Royal this week.
The Fire Service Monument will serve as a lasting memory for firefighters such as John Averis, Ashley Stevens, Ian Reid and Darren Yates-Badley who all died while fighting a blaze at a warehouse in Atherstone-on-Stour in November.
Princess Anne was on hand for the unveiling ceremony of Firefighters Serving Humanity' at the National Memorial Arboretum on Tuesday (20). The monument is granite stone and has taken two years to complete.
Gerry Clarkson, chairman of the Firefighters Memorial Trust said the trust was delighted' that Princess Anne had unveiled the monument. He added: "It recognises the dedication and skills of the men and women serving in the fire and rescue service."
