Will DJ Amber break a record?
2:00pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in News
HAPPY: DJ Amber Jacobs has a regular slot on radio show.
WHEN she’s not doing homework or playing with her dolls, Amber Jacobs loves nothing more than rocking out to her favourite bands.
And the six-year-old from Throckmorton is using her passion for music for a good cause next week in an attempt to become the world’s youngest DJ.
The Pinvin First School pupil is hoping to set a Guinness World Record when she hosts a special edition of The Sunday Morning Service for online station TBFM at the Swan Inn, Port Street, Evesham, on Sunday in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
Amber – known as DJ AJ – already has a regular slot on the show where she loves to play tracks from her favourite artists, including Ozzy Osborne and Black Wolf.
She said: “Radio presenting makes me very happy. I love the songs and introducing them. It was difficult to learn how to do it to start off with, but I was only half way to six at the time and now I’ve got into the spirit of it.”
Her dad Steve, who presents TBFM’s Sunday Morning Service and co-presents its Friday Frenzy show, said Amber had an interest in DJing early on.
He said: “I don’t have any influence over what she plays, apart from censorship.
She’s been doing it about six months now. She sat in with me on a couple of shows and she asked to have a go, we said go on then. She’d bully me out of the chair and we even have arguments over the tracks we play.”
Among the highlights of Amber’s radio career so far include introducing Doctor and The Medics to an audience of 1,500 people.
What does she love most about listening to rock music?
“It just makes me want to dance around and be happy,” she said.
The event at the Swan starts at 11am and donations to Acorns can be made via justgiving.com/DJ-AJ.
