Man stole make-up

A VALE man has been put under supervision after stealing make-up from a shop.

Daniel Merchant, aged 32, of Cherry Orchard Road, Lower Moor, near Pershore, admitted taking two L’Oreal foundations worth £22.98 when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Merchant, who is out on licence after being in prison for burglary, went to Superdrug on September 21 and was seen to put items into his pockets, the court was told. Sarah Stock, prosecuting, said he then left the store without paying for them before giving them back to staff and running off.

During his police interview he admitted having “eight pints of beer” before taking the makeup.

In his defence, Barry Newton said he was a “very scared man” after suffering with a significant hernia problem.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury imposed a community order with 12 months’ supervision, a six-month alcohol treatment requirement and £85 costs

We must be more tolerant of the gender-challenged. Clearly deeper issues are at play here.
