SMILES: Some of the Worcestershire Welcome winners
PERSHORE’S Plum Festival has been honoured for its success at the Worcestershire Welcome Awards.
Event organisers were presented with the Best Tourism Event and Festival Award during a ceremony at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium last Thursday.
Angela Tidmarsh, tourism officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are over the moon with the award. To win two years in a row is fantastic. We will strive to make it bigger and better next year and hope to do well in the national awards later this year.”
Other winners included the Cotswold Conference Centre in Broadway, which won the Business Tourism Award and was highly commended in the Sustainable Tourism Award.
Richard Howdle, operations manager at the centre, said: “The staff are rightly very proud of these accolades.”
Destination Worcestershire’s Simon Tipple said: “It’s been a great year for the county.
“Not only have we benefited from a Royal visit as well as the Olympic Torch procession, we’ve also had the opening of The Hive in Worcester.”
All of the winners were presented with plaques and all the finalists received a framed certificate. The winners will also be fast-tracked to the final stages of VisitEngland’s national Awards for Excellence.
