County solicitor has died aged 69

A MEMORIAL service for one of Worcestershire’s best known solicitors is to be held today.

David Harrison, who was 69, was the grandson of the founder of Worcester solicitors Harrisons, which has since become Harrison Clark, the area’s largest law firm.

Mr Harrison, who lived at Ridgeway Cross, near Cradley, retired from the business in 2002 and had been suffering from cancer in recent months.

He leaves a widow Liz and two children Lucy and Henry.

“David embodied the virtues of a solicitor from a more Trollopian age,”

said Jonathan Brew, Harrison Clark’s senior partner.

“He liked to know his clients, many of them drawn from local farming stock in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

“He knew their families, their histories and their values.

“Extrovert and outspoken, yet he could be sympathetic to those in need of professional advice.”

Mr Harrison’s grandfather started the Worcester firm of Harrisons in the aftermath of the Great War.

His father Roy then built it up to become one the city’s leading practices.

“Once there, David began to relish the chance of making a real difference to people’s lives,” Mr Brew added.

“Like the local doctor or priest, solicitors he felt, could still be some cohesive force for the good in a town where a gentleman’s word was still his bond.

“In the Sixties Harrisons’ joined with Tony Clark to become Harrison Clark, David became a partner and the firm continued to grow.”

The service is at St James’ Church, Cradley, at 2pm.
