New support service for the bereaved

A FREE new service giving support to people who need help after losing a loved one has been launched.

Worcester’s St Richard’s Hospice has been chosen to lead and host the new bereavement support south Worcestershire service by south Worcestershire’s clinical commissioning group.

The service includes a website – bereavementsupportworcestershire.org.uk – with useful information, a telephone helpline for those registered with a GP in south Worcestershire, a bereavement social worker to provide support for those encountering complex grief and bereavement education and training for a wide range of organisations.

In addition, bespoke awareness sessions will be provided for the bereaved depending on individual need and circumstances .

June Patel, St Richard’s Hospice care director, said: “The death of a loved one or close friend is one of the most difficult times in each of our lives.

“Whether this is expected, following a long-term illness, or sudden and unexpected, the grieving process is deeply personal.

“The aim of the new bereavement support service is to provide people with information and links to organisations which may be able to offer help and guidance across a range of needs from practical issues to emotional support. The telephone help-line will also be very useful for those who would prefer to talk to someone.

“We are working closely with the hospitals, emergency services, GPs and other organisations to en-sure that they are aware of the new service and can direct people who may benefit from that support.”

Follow the link and there is plenty of information and phone numbers for those unfortunate enough to need them.
I would also hope that health professionals are aware of this service and will ensure that those in need of this service are either given the number or appropriate referrals are made.
