A GROCER that has kept Pershore in fruit and veg for almost four decades has been recognised for its long service to the town.

Ken and Jen Mason and Daughters in Pershore Retail Market was presented with the Mayor’s Award by mayor Charles Tucker.

He said: “The Mayor’s Award is for excellent service to the community of Pershore. Ken and Jen Mason and their three daughters have been running their fruit and veg stall in Pershore Market for the past 36 years, come rain or shine. They have truly given a lifetime of service to Pershore.”

Sandra Mason, of the family business, said: “We’ve been here 36 years and I think it’s because of the customers’ loyalty. We enjoy being here.

“The award has made us feel very proud and appreciated, and it’s taken pride of place in our stall.”

The business is running a fund-raising tombola in aid of Midlands Air Ambulance on Saturday, December 22, and Sunday, December 23, with prizes including alcohol and a chocolate bouquet.

Meanwhile, a coffee morning organised by the mayor and mayoress in aid of the Worcestershire branch of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Pershore Dementia Café raised £135.
