PATIENTS are being urged to attend the minor injuries (MIU) unit at Evesham rather than A&E if they hurt themselves stuffing the turkey this Christmas.

NHS leaders at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust say putting up decorations, burning yourself on the turkey and a cocktail of stress, tiredness and alcohol can create unexpected hazards in the home at Christmas.

People are urged to go to the MIU if they can rather than going to A&E, saving that service for those with serious, life-threatening conditions.

Joy Powell, Sister on MIU said: “Typically, Boxing Day is the busiest day over the holidays. We see several patients with burns from taking the turkey out the oven, cuts to hands from carving accidents and plenty of alcohol-related mishaps.”
