A MAN remains in a serious condition in hospital after he was assaulted with a knife at a Worcestershire bar last night.

Police were called to Chancers in Vine Street, Evesham, at 11.25pm yesterday after a male member of staff was assaulted by a man armed with a knife.

He received a serious wound to his hand and forearm and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

His attacker made off from the bar and has yet to be found despite a significant number of officers searching for him in the town centre overnight.

Officers are unable to release a full description at this time but we can confirm that he received some kind of head injury during the assault, which may mark him out.

Detective Inspector Mark Loader, who is leading the investigation said: "I want to reassure local residents that an armed assault of this kind is very unusual for Evesham. We believe it was an isolated incident that may relate to an altercation that occurred earlier in the bar.

"Obviously, our priority is to find the man responsible for the attack and we would like anyone who has any information that could help, to contact West Mercia Police immediately.

"We would particularly like to hear from customers at Chancers last night who saw any part of this incident and have yet to speak to the police, as well as anyone who has encountered a man with an unexplained head wound.

"While we continue our search and investigation in Evesham, local uniformed officers will be conducting extra high-visibility reassurance patrols in the town centre, so anyone going out tonight may see an increased police presence.

"Officers will also be looking to identify any further potential witnesses, so if you have information, please feel free to speak to them about what you may have seen."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 762/S/191212.
