We can’t compete with web anymore

A PERSHORE gift shop is closing after its owner decided to move the business online due to a drop in footfall.
Sarah Blaine, who owns Mahouts in Pershore High Street, will be shutting the shop on Saturday after 18 months. Mrs Blaine said she decided to close as the high street can no longer compete with the internet and although she will be sad to close, the future is online.
“The economy is bad and the towns are changing,” said Mrs Blaine. “It is the footfall, it is definitely down.
People have so many options these days. It is a shame.”
Although people will no longer be able to buy goods from Mahouts in Pershore, some shoppers will spot a new cushion designed by Mrs Blaine at the shop Liberty’s in London. The silk cushions are made in Thailand by a family which benefits from the sales.
“I contacted Liberty’s after a customer purchased a silk cushion from me and told me they used to sell the material there. They really liked them and they appreciated we are fairtrade.” The shop will be holding a closing down sale on Saturday.
