Success is sweet for birthday girl
A YOUNGSTER from Evesham got an early birthday present when she won a competition to spend the day at a Vale sweet shop.
Niamh Phillips, who turned 11 the day after her prize, was delighted when she discovered she had won and would be spending a day at Mr Chill’s Traditional Sweet Emporium.
Her name was drawn from more than 150 entries to the free prize and she spent a Saturday at the shop in Bridge Street, Evesham.
Assisted by Mr Chill, the owner, and the shop’s manager Alex Lindley the Simon de Montfort Middle School pupil greeted customers, weighed sweets from jars and popped them into candy striped bags.
“I couldn’t believe it when Alex called me to say I’d won the prize,” said Niamh. “I had a great time working in the shop. It was fun serving the people and seeing so many different sweets on the shelves.”
Niamh was given a large jar of sweets, filled with her favourite selection including humbugs, spearmint chews and Murray mints. “It was a delight to have Niamh join our team for the day,” said Mr Chill. “She had lots of fun. I like to think it was an early birthday present for her.”
