Vision of new-look library

PERSHORE residents can now see what the town’s library will look like inside and out when work to revamp the building is finished.

Photos of the modernised library building are on show at the library for the next week as part of a town council exhibition.

The £500,000 makeover by Pershore Town Council, which purchased the building from Worcestershire County Council for £200,000 in December 2011, will see part of the library demolished to make way for a new extension.

Other changes will include new windows and doors, new roofing, a larger floor space and a single-storey extension to the back of the building.

It is hoped the changes will help to diversify the current library services to include a meeting room, teenage book area, separate work and reading rooms.

If approved by Wychavon District Council planners, work will begin on the building in April with the hope it will be finished by the summer. The library facilities will move to the town hall while work takes place.

Mayor Councillor Charles Tucker said: “Everybody who has seen the design seems to be impressed and we think it is going to be a lovely design.

“The exhibition is for people to come and see the design for themselves and give us their comments.”

The plans will move to the town hall next Thursday where they will be on display for a further week.
