VISITORS to Pershore Retail Market this week had the chance to see potter Roy Clarke creating his wares before their eyes.

Mr Clarke, who lives in nearby Elmley Castle, was in situ yesterday (Wednesday) and will also be there today, tomorrow and Saturday, making examples of his distinctive Cotswold stoneware.

Lancaster-born Mr Clarke has led a varied career. For six years he was lecturer in ceramics and fine art at the University of Central Lancashire, after which he formed Stratford-upon-Avon Ceramics.

Between 1992 and 2010, he put pottery on hold while pursuing other occupations, including running a pub and working for a printing company. But he has now returned to his first love of producing hand-made ceramics on the potter’s wheel with personal designs and glazes.

He said: “This will be a chance to show my wares to local people. I’m looking forward to it.”

I was delighted to happen upon this article as I have been collecting Stratford Upon Avon pots for years but have never known who the potter was.
I love his work - each pot is beautifully precise.
