DRIVERS are being warned not to buy fake gold jewellery from roadside fraudsters.

Police have issued the warning after several attempts by men to stop motorists in south Worcestershire and sell them the counterfeit gold.

The men say they have broken down and need to exchange the jewellery for cash.

So far incidents have been reported in Worcester, Evesham, Severn Stoke and Inkberrow.

Two occurred near Junction 6 of the M5, one on Tuesday (Feb 5) and then again on Wednesday (feb 6), while in Evesham motorists were approached on the A44 on Tuesday and Worcester Road on Sunday (Feb 3).

A man was also moved on after being spotted parked up in a lay-by at the Twyford Services on Tuesday.

On Thursday (feb 7) at 2.45pm, a man was stopped on the A38 through Severn Stoke where two people were attempting to flag down motorists.

They said they had no fuel, needed money, and offered him two gold rings. They also asked for his address and bank details, but the driver refused and drove off.

Paul Kinsella, Chief Inspector in South Worcestershire, said: “Thankfully, we are not aware of anyone being defrauded out of their money. However, if you know anyone who has been deceived, please contact the police.”

If anyone spots any suspicious activity they should take down vehicle registration numbers and report it to the police on 101.

No offence, but that really does sound like a statement from the Ministry of the Bleeding Obvious.

So according to recent news reports, it's not wise to buy gold at the roadside or chainsaws on the doorstep. I'm putting off any big purchases awaiting the next instalment of consumer advice.

I was doorstepped today by someone selling do-it yourself Nuclear home fusion kits. Followed shortly afterward by a strange Iranian looking chap asking for any kits going spare. What is the world coming too!

It all worked out even for me. I bought the rings but paid with a couple of sky hooks and a left handed hammer.....then I sent them to the local B&Q where I had reserved them a long weight...
