Cancer sufferer left devastated by theft

A CANCER sufferer said she couldn’t bring herself to get out of bed for two days as she was so upset by thieves who targeted her business.
Deborah Spittle, of Granbrook Lane, Mickleton, says she was left distraught after the break-in on Monday, February 4, where thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of equipment and stock from the salon which she has lovingly built up and runs from her back garden.
The beautician is currently undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time.
She said: “It is the timing of it. It is very traumatic at the moment.
“It made me unwell for a couple of days. You need all your energy to try and get well.
“You don’t want something like this at the best of times.
People cannot believe the bad luck on top of bad luck.”
The Essence in Beauty salon is just metres from the home Ms Spittle shares with her partner James Trainor and her two children, aged seven and 14.
“We have been here for seven years and running the business for about five.
“We have never been targeted before,” said the 46-year-old.
“When it happened we were asleep in the room upstairs. I haven’t been back in there yet to sort it out. It is horrible knowing someone’s been in there.”
Mr Trainor, aged 41, said he thought the thieves knew what they were looking for.
“I went out to walk the dog and saw the door was slightly ajar and wood chippings on the floor where they had broken the lock.
“I think they knew what they were targeting. It was like they had a shopping list.
There is a different feeling in there now, but we can get that back.”
Despite the traumatic experience, Ms Spittle says she is determined to beat her cancer and reopen the business.
“Hopefully we can reopen in a couple of months. I am determined to get back to it.”
The break-in occurred between 6pm on Monday, February 4, and 5.30am on the following day. Information can be given to Gloucestershire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 85 of February 5.
