Award to ‘unsung heroine’

A BADSEY stalwart has been presented with an award for her work with disabled people.

Jean Dyke, who has run the Coronation Street Club for disabled people for almost 30 years, was given the Tony Jerram Award at this year’s annual general meeting of the Badsey Society.

The award, which was presented in St James’ Church in Badsey, is given each year to someone who has contributed greatly to the community’s of Badsey or Aldington.

Mrs Dyke’s work with the Coronation Street Club began in Evesham but the club moved its weekly meetings to the Badsey Royal British Legion about 10 years ago.

Maureen Spinks, chairman of the club, said many people may not know this year’s winner because she is one of those unsung heroines who does not shout about her work.

One of her nominators wrote: “You never hear her moan or have a negative opinion on anything. She is a wonderful, selfless person who I think whole-heartedly deserves some recognition for what she has done and is still doing.”

The trophy was presented by a previous winner, Elizabeth Bolland.
