Fan’s on the ball for cause
A KEEN football fan is hoping to go the distance in support of a worthy cause.
Sarah Whitehouse, of Inkberrow, near Worcester, is taking on the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon on Sunday, April 21, in aid of St Richard’s Hospice with a minimum target of collecting £2,000.
The 23-year-old administration assistant chose the charity because of its work with patients living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and their families, as well as having friends with links to the hospice. She said: “Training so far is going really well.
“ I’m currently up to 14 miles, which I did last Saturday. This Saturday is 16 miles. I’m training four times a week.”
To boost her final total she is auctioning a pennant signed by the entire West Bromwich Albion football squad on eBay and her father Gary has offered to match-fund the winning bid.
Miss Whitehouse added: “The generous support from West Bromwich Albion means a lot, as me and my family are huge Albion fans, with my Dad and myself both having season tickets.
Knowing that your club is behind you, even if it is a small amount, means a lot.”
She is also holding a fund-raising event with a live performance from local musician Tom Forbes at the Pavilion, Sands Road, Inkberrow on Saturday, March 16. Tickets are £10.
