Church packed for haulage firm boss

HUNDREDS of mourners paid tribute to a late Vale businessman.

More than 400 people came to pay their respects to Ron Sinclair at St Mary and St Egwin Roman Catholic Church, which was filled to capacity and meant some people were forced to stand outside. Sean Sinclair, son of the man behind established Evesham haulage firm, R Sinclair Transport, said it was a testament to how many people’s lives his father had touched.

He said: “The funeral was very well attended, we couldn’t get any more people in the church. People arrived early to ensure they got a seat.” Mr Sinclair was aged 86 when he died on Friday, March 1, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

He leaves behind his wife Doreen, four sons and one daughter, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Born in 1926 and raised in Evesham, Mr Sinclair knew many people around the town but he also travelled with the merchant navy.

His son said: “He went on Atlantic and Arctic convoys and to South America and Australia. He sailed all around the world and came back again to Evesham.”

He met his wife in 1947, which was also the year he bought his first lorry and set up his business.

Mr Sinclair was also one of the men behind the Evesham Sea Cadets returning to the town and the reinstatement of the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Evesham.

“He was still in the office every day,” said Sean. “He was also involved with the community and another main love was his horses. He was very involved in the North Cotswold Hunt and the annual point-to-point race meeting.

“As a family we are all indebted to the Campden Home Nursing Trust for their wonderful and compassionate care.

“We wish dad had been with us a little longer as he was only diagnosed one month before he died.”
