Worcestershire County Council's gritters are on standby tonight
THE gritting fleet will be on standby tonight with the county experiencing wintery conditions despite the start of spring being just around the corner.
Showers will continue through the evening and overnight which may turn wintry with the likelihood of localised snow accumulations where this is the case.
Clear skies could cause road surface temperatures to fall close to zero with a possibility of a few fog patches.
A drier interlude may follow before more showers by the end of tomorrow morning.
Worcestershire County Council's gritting fleet will remain on standby through this period with weather conditions being monitored in case road treatment is needed.
Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council's highways manager, said: "We're almost at the end of winter, which is great news, but we're not out of the woods yet, so we're keeping our fleet ready for action in case the weather changes and road surfaces need treatment to ensure our drivers are well supported."
Residents can keep up-to-date with gritting by following the county council's Twitter account @worcscc (www.twitter.com/worcscc).
Gritting teams are also out and about ensuring grit bins across the county are refilled as fast as they can. To help residents pinpoint their nearest grit bin an interactive map is available at www.worcestershire.gov.uk/gritting.
