THIEVES have stolen a brand new computer worth more than £1,700 just four days after it had been delivered to a school.

The Apple Mac was snatched from Bengeworth First School between 8pm on Saturday, March 9, and 6am on Sunday, March 10.

Despite the school having an alarm system, it failed to activate as the thieves didn’t physically enter the building.

After forcing open a double-glazed window in the headteacher’s office, they leant in and took the £1,742 computer.

School head David Braham said the thieves must have known what they were looking for.

“I had the new computer delivered on Tuesday and by Saturday it had gone. All the blinds were down so they couldn’t have seen it through the window. Someone must have seen it when the school was open.

“It was obviously targeted because they came in through the window exactly where the computer was.”

The theft is the second at the school in sixth months.

In November last year thieves stripped £800 of lead from the roof. But Mr Braham said they have put in new precautions to prevent any more incidents.

Anyone with information on the theft should contact the police on non emergency number 101 quoting reference number 0043S110313.
